An ell (from Proto-Germanic *alinō, cognate with Latin ulna) is a unit of measurement, originally a cubit, i.e., approximating the length of a man's arm from the elbow ("elbow" means the bend or bow of the ell or arm) to the tip of the middle finger, or about 18 inches (457 mm); in later usage, any of several longer units.

1.5 ell = 67.5 inches | 4.5 ell = 202.5 inches |
2 ell = 90 inches | 5 ell = 225 inches |
2.5 ell = 112.5 inches | 5.5 ell = 247.5 inches |
3 ell = 135 inches | 6 ell = 270 inches |
The inch (abbreviation: in or ″) is a unit of length in the (British) imperial and United States customary systems of measurement now formally equal to 1⁄36 yard but usually understood as 1⁄12 of a foot. Derived from the Roman uncia ("twelfth"), inch is also sometimes used to translate related units in other measurement systems, usually understood as deriving from the width of the human thumb.
